CONNECTFIRST / SERVUS

What happened to connectFirst?

A sourced history of connectFirst, its merger with Servus, branch rebranding and the distinction between legal and operational changes.

Editorial review: October 3, 2026 · Published by Oleksand Tsygan

What the name connectFirst refers to

connectFirst was an Alberta credit union. Its history includes legal combinations and a later consolidation of branch branding. Those events should not be collapsed into a single “creation” date: an organisation can exist under a legal name before its branches and digital services share one public brand.

The credit union’s 2015 second-quarter financial report states that Connect First Credit Union Ltd. was formed on November 1, 2014 when First Calgary Financial and Chinook amalgamated. This is a historical primary document, not a source for current services or prices.

A timeline of different kinds of change

  1. November 1, 2014 — formation reported in financial statements.

The 2015 report identifies the First Calgary and Chinook amalgamation. Historical financial report.

  2. May 2021 — a shared connectFirst brand.

A connectFirst announcement describes First Calgary, Chinook, Mountain View and Legacy adopting the connectFirst brand across branches and digital channels. 2021 brand announcement.

  3. May 1, 2024 — merger with Servus closes.

Servus’s May 2 announcement confirms completion. Official merger announcement.

  4. 2025 — former connectFirst branch rebranding begins.

A May 14 notice describes the start of Servus signage changes, following the decision to use the Servus name. Branch rebranding notice.

  5. 2026 — banking-system conversion.

Servus publishes account-topic instructions for former connectFirst members. Operational dates and availability need a current check. Official member updates.

Why the distinction matters to a member

A merger announcement answers a historical question: when did the organisations combine? A branch-brand notice answers a presentation question: which name appears at a location? A conversion guide answers an operational question: how do affected accounts and services move to another system?

None of these documents alone answers every question about a particular account. A member reviewing a charge needs the applicable fee schedule. A person trying to access earlier statements needs the current access instructions. A borrower checking an existing contract needs the relevant loan documents.

Use a source that matches your question

Historical press releases explain background. Current provider instructions explain actions. Product documents establish the conditions to verify for your account.

What this history does not establish

The timeline does not show that all products have identical terms, that every old service still operates, or that a particular account needs no action. It also does not provide current rates, opening eligibility or individual account status.

We deliberately avoid presenting historical branch counts, asset totals or leadership names as current. Those details can change and are not needed to answer the main reader question: what is the relationship between connectFirst and Servus?
